Completed a Bachelor of Environmental Studies at the University of Waterloo (1981), a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Toronto (1984) and a Master of Laws (Taxation Law) at York University, Osgoode Hall Law School (1997). Was called to the Bar of Ontario (1986) and the the Bar of British Columbia (1992).Practiced with Blaney McMurty (1986 to 1990), with Thorsteinssons (1990 to 2004), with Bennett Jones (2005-2014), except for a brief period with Baker MacKenzie (2012). Was Co-Chair of the Bennett Jones Tax and Estates Group (2010 to 2011). His practice focus was Canadian income tax law, and his expertise in that area has been recognized by several publications, including Best Lawyers in Canada, the Canadian Legal Expert Directory, and The World's Leading Lawyers. Prior to his appointment, was a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation, and the International Fiscal Association. He has published numerous articles and has been a frequent conference speaker on issues relating to taxation law. Appointed judge of the Tax Court of Canada on April 10, 2014.
