Federal Court Judicial Appointment Announced

Ottawa, February 20, 2008 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, recently announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Mr. Russel Zinn, a partner with Ogilvy Renault LLP in Ottawa, is appointed a Judge of the Federal Court. He replaces the Honourable Mr. Justice Pierre Blais who was appointed to the Federal Court of Appeal.

Mr. Justice Zinn received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa in 1979, a Master of Arts (Philosophy) in 1976 and a Bachelor of Arts in 1973 from Carleton University. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1981. Mr. Justice Zinn has been Partner with Ogilvy Renault LLP since 2001 and made Senior Partner in 2006. He was Partner with Zinn Hofley from 1993 to 2001 and with Gowling Strathy & Henderson from 1987 to 1993. Mr. Justice Zinn’s main practice areas consist of civil litigation, labour, health law, employment law, human rights and privacy. In addition, he has been a member of the County of Carleton Law Association since 1981, has authored ‘The Law of Human Rights in Canada: Practice and Procedure’ (1988) Canada Law book, and has spoken and presented papers at numerous Legal Conferences.

This appointment is effective February 20, 2008.
